Sports: High Performance
Donnan is designated as a Sports Alternative School for Edmonton Public Schools. The school provides programming for students as the community school for the King Edward Park area in Grades K to 9. The Sports Alternative program at Donnan provides academic programming for Grades 4 to 6. We have a number of unique programs that support athletic endeavors. For example; hockey, soccer, skiing, gymnastics, tennis, figure skating, golfing, diving and equestrian. All the sports are facilitated through a society, university, or club teams. These are aspiring athletes who require flexible training/competition time away from school.
We have structured our school schedule so that all the core subject areas (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social) are taught in the morning. The afternoons are left for the students to train or compete. Should an athlete need time off for competitions, our teachers are supportive and assist the athletes to meet their academic needs.
Please note: Additional fees are assessed by the individual sport groups and will vary from one group to another. These fees are not included in normal school fees or international student fees that may be applicable.

The Hockey Program operates within Edmonton Public Schools in Edmonton, Alberta. Grades 3 through 6 attend Donnan School and 7 through 12 Vimy Ridge. The unique alternative education environment created at Donnan and Vimy serves the needs of students in many unique and exciting ways. The Hockey Program focuses on the internal drive that minor hockey players have for the game and is driven by the Enthusiasm, Confidence, Strength and Character of those hockey players as they transfer into an everyday environment dedicated to long term academic and athletic development.
Students receive instruction each day in their core subjects (Math, Science, Social, Language Arts) and are involved in a variety of on and off ice activities designed to promote the development of competence and character within a hockey context. EPSB teachers deliver core courses in the morning while THP instructors implement in-depth hockey curriculum each afternoon.
The program is planned and administered by its own board of directors and instructors who work closely with school administrators and teachers to ensure complete academic and athletic success.
